Open Calls

As part of its mission to advance foundational and applied research in Artificial Intelligence (AI) across Europe, the ENFIELD project has a structured programme of Open Calls. These calls are strategically designed to mobilise excellence in AI research through two complementary mechanisms:

  • The Exchange Scheme, targeting individual researchers.
  • The Innovation Scheme, focused on research centres and private-for-profit companies.

Exchange Scheme – TES

The Exchange Scheme supports the mobility of individual researchers (PhD candidates, post-docs, senior researchers or group of researchers) to work within the ENFIELD network for 3 to 6 months on foundational AI research challenges.

  • Number of Calls: 4 
  • Researchers Funded: At least 76 
  • Funding per Researcher: €2,400/month (mobility allowance) 
  • Total Budget: €1.1M  

Innovation Scheme – TIS

The Innovation Scheme is designed to support applied research projects led by legal entities (research centres, start-ups, SMEs, and industry) focusing on real-world industrial or societal use cases in AI. Proposals are expected to deliver tangible AI-driven solutions with strong exploitation potential, contributing directly to Europe’s competitiveness in strategic sectors.

  • Number of Calls: 2 
  • Projects Funded: At least 18 
  • Funding per Project: Up to €60,000 

In total, six Open Calls will be implemented throughout the project with financial support to third parties to foster cross-border knowledge exchange, technological development, and the deployment of impactful AI solutions in alignment with the ENFIELD pillars and application domains.

  • Through this open call (oc1-2024-TES-01), ENFIELD aims to attract European R&D intensive entities (research institutes, start-ups, SMEs and large companies) to conduct applied research activities in specific technological challenges in artificial intelligence in the areas of Healthcare, Energy, Manufacturing, and Space, will involve networking and dissemination activities and contribute to the overall ENFIELD outreach. 
  • ENFIELD expects to fund 9 small-scale projects to address the challenges proposed by the consortium industry players, each financed with up to 60.000€.

  • Through this open call (oc1-2024-TIS-01), ENFIELD aims to attract European R&D intensive entities (research institutes, start-ups, SMEs and large companies) to conduct applied research activities in specific technological challenges in artificial intelligence in the areas of Healthcare, Energy, Manufacturing, and Space, will involve networking and dissemination activities and contribute to the overall ENFIELD outreach. 
  • ENFIELD expects to fund at least 8 small-scale projects to address the challenges proposed by the consortium industry players, each financed with up to 60.000€.

  • Through this open call (oc2-2024-TES-02), ENFIELD aims to fund mobility-based research exchanges for around 19 individual researchers to address targeted scientific and technological challenges in the field of AI, contributing to the development of Green, Adaptive, Human-Centric, and Trustworthy AI across industrial domains such as Energy, Manufacturing, and Healthcare. 
  • This open call looks for researchers or a group of researchers (2-3) based in EU Member States or Horizon Europe Associated Countries who will be granted with a mobility allowance of 2.400€/month (up to 14.400€ in total) for them to carry out research activities in ENFIELD partner organizations for 3-6 months.

  • Through this open call (oc3-2025-TES-01), ENFIELD aims to fund mobility-based research exchanges for around 19 individual researchers to address targeted scientific and technological challenges in the field of AI, contributing to the development of Green, Adaptive, Human-Centric, and Trustworthy AI across industrial domains such as Manufacturing, Space and Healthcare. 
  • This open call looks for researchers or a group of researchers (2) based in EU MemberStates or Horizon Europe Associated Countries who will be granted with a mobility allowance of 2.400€/month (up to 14.400€ in total) for them to carry out research activities in ENFIELD partner organizations for 3-6 months.
